Journey Automation
An efficient solution to communicate and engage with large donor groups.
Summary
Traditionally Bloomerang nonprofit users were forced to schedule individual emails to engage with their constituents. The process was time consuming, limiting, and ultimately resulted in a loss of donations and engagement for our users. The solution was to create a native tool in Bloomerang that could easily automate how users communicated with their donor base.

Competitive Analysis
Communication automation is a complex experience to design from scratch. So the first step in the process began with examining competitors such as MailChimp, Drip, and Constant Contact.
Findings
The organizations who focused and excelled at communication all offered a sandbox canvas approach to empower users to create thousands of automation variations to satisfy their specific needs.
Wireframes and Internal Testing
With a strategy in place based on user interviews and competitive analysis, the next step was to map out our standard users’ journey through our automation tool. This formed our early wireframes to present with internal testers and stakeholders.
User Testing and Feedback
-
"The process was fine and relatively painless. But I would still say to work harder on updating the email template themselves as the process of designing each email is still very clunky and is still look years older than they should."
-
"I had a hard time finding New Automation. Also, on the 2nd part, I think it made me look at the email before I could save it. I didn't expect that and it took me a minute to figure out what it wanted me to do before I could hit that save button."
-
"I would love to see automations that are easier to customize with more options for customization. Also, we would love to have the options of setting up reports to measure engagement without having to open each individual email to view open rates, click throughs, etc
